Misdemeanor Unit
The Misdemeanor Unit of the District Attorney’s Office serves to prosecute all Class A and B misdemeanor cases filed in Webb and Zapata Counties. A misdemeanor offense is a less-serious type of crime than a felony, but it is a serious matter that is decided in a formal court setting.
The types of misdemeanor cases prosecuted include driving under the influence, driving without a valid license, petty theft, disturbing the peace, trespass, battery and minor drug offenses.
Assistant District Attorneys prosecute misdemeanor offenses in both County Courts at Law I and II. A conviction for a misdemeanor offense can lead to jail time and a criminal record that can follow a person for the rest of their life.
